Do you ever feel like God
He’s just trying to fix you?
Mislead you?
Sin is a condition
From which we must be saved
An automatic distrust of God
A sickness
A disease
And there is only one
One tree of life
Where it began
One tree of life
Where it ends
In the spinning of this life
The confusion
The dry spells
We reach back to the beginning
We just want to start again
Before the barren fig tree
Before the annunciation of an angel
The pursuit of our heart
It ends
Where it began
Two lovers, in a garden
On a tree
With a crown of thorns
And a liar, at your feet
God takes a tree of choice
A tree of sin
A tree where our separation from Him began
A tree that was planted, out of love
Love necessitates free will
Free will necessitates judgment
Judgment necessitates death
How can it be
That the tree of love
comes full circle
When love itself is nailed
Flesh
Blood
Bones
Real
To the same tree
the very sin
the pride of us all
To lessen the judgment, to heal us from disease,
We chose it... and he frees us still.
Who would do that?
Not me.
Forty days in a desert.
You’ve been roaming
And your patience has grown thin.
You demand to know the answers
Why can’t I feel you when I pray?
Where on earth have you been?
This automatic
Thoughtless assumption
To think He is up to no good
To think He is punishing you
Because you – you are no good
And His hatred for you must be the only reason
He’s lying, he’s holding out, he’s not real
And if He is real, then the problem must be you
You just aren’t good enough
What is love, God?
And where are you
Where are you when I need you?
When He tempts me
Offering revenge on my enemies
To clear out those in my way
To take down all my posted failures
And give me what I want – right now
Where are you to defend me?
A mirage in this desolation,
An escape from this maze?
All I want is clarity
In this desert
In this haze
Will you trust me when all is barren?
Will you seek me when feel like dust?
When what is ripe, dangles before you?
In whom will you trust?
From Eden to Gethsemane
There is no space between
The paradox of this life is this:
To go forward with God
You must go across
The straight and narrow path
Is the opposite way, apart from everyone else
To follow Jesus is to be his disciple
To sit at the feet of truth
To belong to a community dedicated to His mission
And no got off by yourself
Your way is not better than ours
The fruit in front of you is temptation
For Satan never fails to appear
As everything you ever longed for
A quick fix for your hunger
A way out of this trap
When God promises a way of life
To save you from a fate
Suddenly like an oasis
From the dry rocks sprouts a tree
The altar of sacrifice
Mercy springs forth like a stream
And He promises to make you…. Free
And the reason He came is… Me
This story begins, much as it ends
A tree grown for fruit everlasting,
With a serpent entwined around it with lies
A tree cut down for life undending
And temptation whispers to you every time
God made us for a garden
Of green, of triumph, of life
I made you for a life that is a beautiful exchange
For a tree that gives you shade while you wait
A tree that gives, a tree that takes away
Why did you leave us here?
Why did you make us this way?
From Garden to Garden
Tree to Tree
A tree of choice
A tree of death
A tree of victory.
He builds a future
He gives us roots
And His love leaves us with choice.
The Tree of Death, The Tree of Lies
or the Tree of Sacrifice, of new birth … of Life
“Behold, I have left an open door before you,
which no one
but you
can close.” (Rev. 3:8)
